Description
Kalevankarhu (the Kaleva Bear) was the strongest of the figures. It was said that the bear was the son of Hongatar herself, whom the mistress of the wilds had given birth to "up in the heavens, on the shoulder of the Big Dipper." Great respect and fear were felt towards the bear, as it was half human, half a creature of the forest. And thus, anyone who bore the mark of the bear controlled both man and nature.
