The inspiration for the jewelry comes from an ornate belt buckle from Janakkala, Häme. Leather belts with metal fittings have been known since prehistoric times, and later, many folk costumes were also adorned with light fittings. Women traditionally carried practical items such as keys, small purses, knives, and combs at their waist. Both mothers and daughters wore these, enjoying their jingle when dancing. It was believed that the sound kept evil spirits away. Perhaps the jingle also attracted the attention of young men. Design by Tony Granholm.
