Description
This Kalevala Koru model is based on an original from the 12th century. The filigree bead necklace was part of a valuable treasure found in Halikko Joensuu, along with three silver cross pendants. The treasure was hidden in the ground in a rough clay pot around the time Finland became Christian, about 800 years ago. The one who hid it could have been a priest who wanted to save the valuables from pagan Finns, or it could equally well have been church robbers who hid their loot – no one knows. In any case, the treasure hoard tells of restless times, a period of transition that initiated a new direction of development in Finland.
