Description

Because snakes shed their skin, they were believed to be immortal. In jewelry, the snake represented success and the cycle of the years. A single snake symbolized an awakening and dynamic force, while two symbolized complementary opposing forces. The prototype for the snake ring originated in Vesilahti in the 7th century AD, and similar rings have been found throughout Western Finland and Häme.
