Description
The position of modern design in Kalevala Koru was strengthened in 1956 when artist Börje Rajalin began working as Kalevala Koru's head designer. In 1958, he and Eero Rislakki participated in an exhibition of young avant-garde jewelry artists at Artek in Helsinki, which became a breakthrough for modern jewelry art in Finland. According to Rajalin, it was only then that people realized there was high-quality jewelry art in Finland. Another milestone was the industrial art exhibition at the Milan Triennale in 1960. Rajalin's unique piece Hopeahimmeli, manufactured by Kalevala Koru, won a gold medal and received significant publicity in both domestic and international press. Börje Rajalin's jewelry was characterized by simple shapes and the use of stones and ornaments. His collections of stylish and high-quality silver jewelry significantly contributed to the increasing popularity of silver jewelry among the general public.
