Description

This Kalevala Koru model is based on an original from the 12th century. The filigree bead necklace was part of a valuable treasure found in Joensuu, Halikko, along with three silver cross pendants. The treasure was hidden in the ground in a crudely made clay pot around the time Finland became Christian, about 800 years ago. The person who hid it might have been a priest who wanted to save the valuables from the pagan Finns, or equally, the hiders could have been church robbers concealing their loot – nobody knows. In any case, the treasure hoard tells of turbulent times, a period of upheaval that initiated a new direction of development in Finland.

2nd-grade jewelry has more surface wear.
