Description
Note! The earrings may show signs of wear.
Two long-necked birds, presumably peacocks, have been immortalized as an adornment for this magnificent necklace. Peacocks were considered inhabitants of paradise, symbols of heavenly beauty and immortality. Below the birds is a stemmed chalice of the water of life. The arched frame of the piece is believed to symbolize a church vault. The piece features a paradise symbol from early Christian art, where paradise was the kingdom of heaven. The necklace is modeled after one found in Kernaala, Janakkala, dating back to the 8th-9th century.
