Description
The story of Aulis Sallinen’s opera The Horseman begins in the house of a Novgorod merchant, where the horseman Antti and his wife Anna are slaves. The Horseman is a love story that depicts the love between Antti and Anna in circumstances that were difficult for men, but especially for women. The world of the opera inspired jewelry designer Kirsti Doukas for the third Savonlinna Opera Festival jewelry collection. References to The Horseman subtly come through objects related to riding: metal rings, harnesses, leather straps, and braids. In men's jewelry, silver is combined with black leather, a material befitting the era. The Horseman jewelry collection interestingly expresses the opera's theme and modern jewelry design language.
