Johan Ludvig Runeberg's (1804-1877) "By the Spring" is one of our national poet's most beloved poems. Its delicate depiction of summer nature has also imprinted itself on Finnish minds as a musical composition: "I gaze at you, beautiful spring, near your waters. As cloud shadows wander in your reflection." Runeberg's verses have inspired jewelry designer Kirsti Doukas. Her Lähde (Spring) jewelry is adorned with a light blue gemstone, a topaz. The gemstone sparkles and shines like a clear spring from which rays of light reflect. The silver frame around the stone resembles a calm water surface. The Lähde jewelry honors the 200th anniversary of Runeberg's birth.
