Because snakes shed their skin, they were believed to be immortal. In jewelry, the snake represented success and the cycle of years. One snake symbolized awakening and dynamic power, while two represented complementary opposing forces. The design of the snake ring originates from Vesilahti from the 7th century AD, and similar rings have been found in various parts of Western Finland and Tavastia.
