Description
The models for the amulet's mounts come from hoard finds that were hidden in the ground a thousand years ago. Unstable conditions led people to hide their treasures underground, but sometimes various beliefs also influenced the hoards. The most charming mounts from treasure finds have been assembled into the amulet. The bird has been considered not only a symbol of fertility but also a messenger between humans and gods. The bird's model is a small silver bird found in Luurila, Hattula. The designs of the lozenge pendant and the heart motif are likely derived from eastern mounts. The shape of the crescent-shaped pendant was originally borrowed from the Roman Empire, where it probably had religious symbolism. The models for the decorative mounts were found in Linnaniemi, Hämeenlinna.
