Description

This Kalevala Koru model is based on an original from the 12th century. The filigree bead necklace was part of a valuable treasure found in Joensuu, Halikko, along with three silver cross pendants. The treasure was hidden in the ground in a rough clay pot around the time Finland became Christian, approximately 800 years ago. The person who hid it might have been a priest who wanted to save the valuables from pagan Finns, or it could just as easily have been church robbers hiding their loot – no one knows. In any case, the treasure trove speaks of turbulent times, a period of upheaval that began a new direction of development in Finland.

63cm (Grade 2) the surface of the jewelry shows wear and there are dents in places on the ball.
