Description

The prototype for this Kalevala Koru model dates back to the 12th century. The filigree bead necklace was part of a valuable treasure found in Halikko Joensuu, along with three silver cross pendants. The treasure was hidden in the ground in a crudely made clay pot around the time Finland became Christian, about 800 years ago. The hider could have been a priest who wanted to save the valuables from pagan Finns, or it could just as well have been church robbers who hid their loot - no one knows. In any case, the treasure trove tells of turbulent times, a transitional period that initiated a new direction of development in Finland.
