Description
Note! Wear and tear on the jewelry.
The inspiration for this Kalevala Koru model dates back to the 12th century. The filigree bead necklace was part of a valuable treasure found in Joensuu, Halikko, along with three silver cross pendants. The treasure was hidden in a crude clay pot in the ground around the time Christianity came to Finland, about 800 years ago. The hider may have been a priest who wanted to save the valuables from pagan Finns, or it could have been church robbers who hid their loot - no one knows. In any case, the treasure trove tells of turbulent times, a period of transition that initiated a new direction of development in Finland.
