Description
Note! Second-quality items because the spiral does not have the dark patina it should have.
This Kalevala Koru model is based on an original from the 12th century. The filigree bead necklace was part of a valuable treasure found in Joensuu, Halikko, along with three silver cross pendants. The treasure was hidden in the ground in a crude clay pot around the time of Finland's conversion to Christianity, about 800 years ago. The person who hid it could have been a priest who wanted to save the valuables from pagan Finns, or equally well, the hiders could have been church robbers who hid their loot – no one knows. In any case, the treasure hoard tells of turbulent times, a period of upheaval that began a new direction of development in Finland.
