Description
Jacques Offenbach's opera, The Tales of Hoffmann, is set in the Romantic era of the early 19th century. Jewellery designer Kirsti Doukas drew inspiration from the opera's characters to design a signature jewellery collection for an opera festival. The glass reliefs embedded in the silver jewellery collection interpret the characters of the three women Hoffmann loved. The story features Olympia, who is revealed to be a mechanical doll, whose jewellery features a simple, pure, closed bud adorning a clear glass relief. Young and innocent Antonia is represented by a delicate pink pendant depicting an opening flower bud. In the jewellery of Giulietta, the Venetian temptress, sensual femininity is expressed through a deep red colour and a blooming floral motif.
