Description
The first cross pendants arrived in Finland as early as the 11th century, before the crusades, and were initially worn mainly by men, much like other amulets believed to bring good fortune. Later, cross-themed jewellery came to our country from both the West and the East, but it is not known for certain to what extent Finns themselves made them in times past. With the spread of Christianity, cross pendants worn around the neck also became more common. The Orthodox Ilomantsi cross, whose original model is in the North Karelia Museum.
