Aulis Sallinen's opera The Horseman begins in the home of a Novgorodian merchant, where the horseman Antti and his wife Anna are slaves. The Horseman is a love story that depicts Antti and Anna's love in circumstances that were difficult for the man, but especially for the woman. From the world of opera, jewellery designer Kirsti Doukas found inspiration for the third Savonlinna Opera Festival jewellery collection. References to The Horseman subtly come through objects related to riding: metal rings, harnesses, leather straps, and braids. In men's jewellery, silver is combined with black leather, a material fitting the spirit of the time. The Horseman jewellery collection interestingly expresses the opera's theme and modern jewellery design.
