The ring's wide band is decorated with raised ridges and stamped patterns. The zigzag pattern is repeated in the stamped motifs. This is one of the oldest forms of decoration, found all over the world. In Egypt, the pattern symbolized water. Ancient water symbols depict the creation of life. The ring's design is based on an original from Yliskylä, Perniö, dating back to the 12th century.
