Description
Kalevankarhu (the Kaleva Bear) was the strongest of the figures. It was said that the bear was the son of Hongatar herself, whom the mistress of the wilds had given birth to "up in the heavens, on the shoulder of Ursa Major". Great respect and fear were felt towards the bear, for it was half-human, half-forest dweller. And that is why whoever bore the mark of the bear ruled both man and nature.
